Overview
These insects are 5-7 mm long, 2.5-3.5 mm wide.
One predator is Pheidole megacephala, commonly known as the big-headed ant in the US.

- Strong colony
- Emplace hives in full sun so that they stay warm
- Remove uneaten pollen patties
- Keep apiaries free of combs, cappings, and wet frames
- Extract honey from harvested supers.

- Beetle trap / jail.
Chemical
- CheckMite+ can be used for treating inside the hive. I have seen little about it and would be quite cautious before using it.
- GardStar can be used for treating the ground below the hives (where SHBs pupate). I have seen little about it and would be quite cautious before using it.
